WELCOME TO 2020.
Where clients and designers collaborate to turn inspiration into reality.

THE STUDIO

Situated on the North Coast, 2020 is passionate about pushing the boundaries of design, demonstrating a practical commitment to enhancing the overall experience of architecture. This is evident in their design of projects across the country – which boast a design aesthetic which has become synonymous with 2020 Architects.

As winners of the ‘2016 Residential Architects of the Year’, along with a number of other prestigious awards, 2020 is now regarded as one of Northern Ireland’s leading Architectural Practices, widely respected for their striking designs which are pushing the boundaries of Irish architecture.

2020’s unique design concepts are reinventing the face of architecture throughout Ireland. Specialists in sustainability, 2020 introduce more unusual architectural materials into their designs in a way that is sensitive to the existing geometry of the landscape and is respectful to Planning regulations reflecting their desire to preserve the beauty of the countryside.

Having recently relocated to a new larger studio, 2020 continue to grow year on year. Both employing new specialists and developing the skills of existing staff, to offer a wide variety of services in house.

A dedication to business development and innovation has led 2020 to be the first architects in Ireland to install a dedicated Virtual Reality Suite. This cutting-edge technology enables customers to walk around their design before it has left the drawing board and interact with it, providing them a real sense of how they will actually live in their home.

From award-winning contemporary designs to traditional homes that exude elegance, 2020 encapsulate all architectural styles and tastes. Whether it’s an ultra-modern extension to compliment an existing home, or a large bespoke Edwardian house that oozes grandeur, 2020 cover projects of all shapes and sizes.

From originally specialising in high-end bespoke homes, increased publicity and recognition has led to 2020 being commissioned for a number of prestigious commercial projects, where design is at the forefront of the client’s priorities. 2020 now cover a wide range of disciplines from small residential renovations to large commercial projects, not only in Northern Ireland, but across all of Ireland and the UK.

Situated on one of the most stunning sites on the North Coast, an old forge in Portrush was transformed into a spectacular modern home by 2020 Architects’ Michael Howe and featured on the 2015 series of Channel 4’s Grand Designs.

“The site on which our home is located is one of the most picturesque on the North Coast. I fell in love with the views along time ago but as it’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, I knew that planning permission could be a challenge,” explains architect, Michael Howe.

With panoramic sea views of the Portrush peninsula and Atlantic Ocean, stretching as far as the Donegal headlands, the site was home to a 100 year old stone forge that had been lying derelict for years.
Michael continues: “Over the years, I’ve become well used to designing homes
that are sympathetic to their surroundings and it’s one of our strengths at 2020 Architects.
I was confident that I could design our dream family home, that would be both in-keeping with its beautiful surroundings, yet be a basition for the best of modern design.”
